Since Hope is a rescue dog, we don’t know her history. All we know is she was found on the street with no collar and no chip. She was very thin and the vet believes she spent the majority of her time outside due to scarring on her ears from fly bites. She was extremely timid and afraid of most people.
While she has come a long way and is very friendly with people, great with kids, and extremely loving, she is not good with other dogs. We have done a lot of work and I have trained her to sit and stay when we come across another dog so I don’t worry about her barking or growling, but I want her to be able to socialize with other dogs.
After quite a lot of convincing from friends, I took her to the dog park for the first time. We have a gorgeous dog park in the forest not too far from our home, so I took her on Sunday morning and much to my surprise, she did great! There were a couple of growling incidents, but nothing to worry about and no altercations. She went up to every human and said hello, but for the most part, she didn’t want much to do with other dogs.
I am going to continue working with her and take her to the park regularly in hopes that she can make some friends.
If you have some advice on how to get her socialized, I would love to hear suggestions!
