Sweet Chili BBQ Instant Pot Chicken Wings
Hello Friends and Happy New Year! I hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Years, surrounded by people you love. My family and I had a joyous Christmas and although I’m a little sad it’s over, it’s kind of nice to get back to “normal.” All of the Christmas decorations have been taken down and packed away and we are focused on a fresh start for the new year.
Our New Year’s tradition is to go over to the home of some friends and have a PJ party and eat and play games in their basement. This year, I brought my Sweet Chili BBQ Instant Pot Chicken Wings and they went over extremely well. Our friends kept the menu simple with pizza delivery and some chips and dip. Normally, we have a bunch of different appetizers, but we were all just not feeling it this year.
New Year’s Rockin’ Eve was on in the background, but we were so focused on our games, that we paid very little attention to it. Is it just me, or does Ryan Seacrest never age? Maybe it was that frigid air, but he still looks like he’s 25.
Instant Pot cooking is so great for preparing home cooked food that takes very little effort, which made this recipe perfect for a low-key evening with friends.

I received my Instant Pot as a birthday gift last year. It wasn’t something on my wish list, but my BFF surprised me and I absolutely love it! Food cooks very quickly in it and you don’t need any oil, so it makes for healthy food preparation. Pinterest is filled with recipe inspiration, so if you’re a little intimidated to try cooking with a pressure cooker, rest assured that it’s easier than you think!
Chicken wings are usually prepared by deep frying the wings in oil before coating in the sauce. Because these Sweet Chili BBQ Wings are prepared in the Instant Pot, there is no need to fry them. Admittedly, this is not the healthiest recipe because it contains a lot of sugar, but they are great for parties or Game Day.
My husband’s stomach is sensitive to spicy foods, so this recipe is pretty mild, but you can turn up the heat with some crushed red pepper flakes. Another option is to cut down the amount of BBQ sauce to allow the heat from the chili sauce to come through. Instant Pot cooking is fairly forgiving, so it’s ok to make adjustments to suit your own palette.
In addition to the wings, you only need a few ingredients:
- BBQ Sauce (I like the honey sweet variety, but use your favorite!)
- Worcestershire Sauce
- Sweet Chili Sauce
- Minced Garlic
- Brown Sugar
- Water
Simply place all of the ingredients in the Instant Pot and let it do the work! Seriously, these wings are so easy to prepare and are so tender, they fall right off the bone.
After the timer on the Instant Pot goes off, release the steam, baste with more BBQ sauce and then place the wings on a tin foil lined cookie sheet and place under the broiler to crisp up the skins.
Lining the cookie sheet with tin foil makes for super easy clean-up. Just one pot to wash and that’s it!
Serve warm garnished with green onions or any fresh herbs you like.
I hope you enjoy this recipe and will try it at home. If you have any questions, leave them in the comments for me. I love hearing from you!
