We had such a wonderful Christmas this year. The girls were home with us and we got up in the morning and got our coffee and sat around the tree and opened our stockings first. We go around the room and let each family member go through theirs one at a time so we can all see what everyone got. Even Hope got her own stocking and she got lots of new chew toys so she was a very happy girl! We took our time opening our presents while listening to Christmas music and then I made a breakfast tart and we had a leisurely breakfast and then we all got ready and headed over to some friend’s where we had lasagna and salad and homemade bread and soup and played games around the table. It was a day filled with lots of love and laughter. My kind of day!
I wanted to share some new kitchen things that I got with you that I’m pretty excited about! I don’t want to bore you with all the gifts I got (socks and gift cards and body lotion are probably not very exciting to my readers!) but I did want to share some gifts for the kitchen.
First off, my sweet hubby got me the Pioneer Woman dishes I’ve been eyeing. He knew exactly what I wanted and what color, so there was no guessing involved, but I’m still super excited. Our dishes were 10 years old and a lot of them have broken over the years and the dishes that remained were either chipped or cracked. It was time to replace them and I love the bright red dishes that Ree came out with a few months ago. The bowls are a really pretty shape and the design on them is really stunning. I also like that I can buy individual spare plates instead of having to buy and entire extra set if we just need extra dinner plates.
We have been using them since Christmas and they are so well made and just gorgeous. I also think the color is so much fun! We had some neutral dishes before, which were fine, but red is way more exciting.
He also got me the Pioneer Woman dutch oven in red. I LOVE the butterfly handle on it and I’ve been wanting a dutch oven for a long time, but they are normally too pricey. The price point of the Pioneer Woman’s line is very affordable and the quality is incredible! It’s nice to find affordable cookware that is beautiful and of excellent quality.
My sweet step mom sent this adorable chef spoon rest. The kitchen has a chef theme, and we had a simple black spoon rest before. This spoon rest goes perfectly with the decor.
I like his mustache and chubby cheeks.
Our good friends got this adorable apron for me from the rescue shelter. They have rescue pets and our Hope is a rescue as well. They know how much I adore her and dogs in general and the fact that the money went to the shelter is even more meaningful to me. Bow Wow! Is this not the cutest apron ever? Seriously, I just love it.
And last, but not least, I did buy a gift for myself. I don’t normally do that, but I have been wanting a KitchenAid mixer for years and years and Target was having a great sale. I honestly did not have a great Target experience. I ordered online on December 9 and after a couple of weeks, when I had not seen a shipping confirmation, I went online to check the order status and it showed delivery between December 30 and January 15. I thought that was a bit long, but with the Christmas rush I understood. I went online last night to check it again and the order showed cancelled. I didn’t get an email or phone call or notification, the order was just cancelled and of course, the price of the mixer went up another $100. I would have called and tried to get in touch with customer service, but they had the professional mixer, which I was eyeing anyway on sale for the same price as the mixer I was originally planning to order and although I prefer the mixer that tilts, rather than the bowl lift, the extra power will come in handy, so I went ahead and ordered the pro version. It’s marked down significantly so I didn’t bother to contact Target regarding the order cancellation. I am sure I am going to love it when it comes in, but I’ll give you a full report! (I just went online and looked at the order to link the product for you and it’s already shipped, yea!)
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas holiday and that 2016 is a year filled with blessings. Happy New Year from my kitchen to yours.
