Hello Foodies! Today I’m sharing my Chocolate Dipped Marshmallows with you, which make a perfect Valentine’s Day Treat. Send the kids off to school with these marshmallows in treat bags along with their paper Valentine’s. They will be a hit with the entire class! These adorable treats would also be great to take to MOPs or Bible study or to a wine party for ladies night. They are super easy to prepare and make an impressive presentation.
You’ll need a bag of giant marshmallows. I found these strawberry and vanilla marshmallows at my local grocery store. The strawberry flavored marshmallows are pink and are adorable for Valentine’s day. They also give the chocolate dipped marshmallows a similar flavor to chocolate dipped strawberries, although they are definitely not as healthy as fresh strawberries. Eat a strawberry after your chocolate dipped marshmallow to make you feel better.
Obviously to make chocolate dipped strawberries you’ll also need chocolate! Dark chocolate is my preferred variety, but any chocolate will do. Just grab a bag of chocolate chips from the baking aisle. You don’t need to buy bars of chocolate and cut it up when chips are already the right size for melting.
The Ghiradelli 60% cacao are my personal favorite. The bitterness of the chocolate helps cut the sweetness of the marshmallows. Semi-sweet would work really well also. Just pour them into a bowl and microwave until melted.
Look at that melted goodness. If you don’t want to use a microwave, you can use a double boiler, but using the microwave is much easier. Make sure you use a microwave-safe bowl and keep a close eye on it, stirring regularly.
Pick up some inexpensive straws and treat bags from your local craft store. I found some at JoAnn’s Fabrics, but you can also find some at Michael’s or Hobby Lobby.
Place a straw through the center of each marshmallow and place them on wax paper. The wax paper will help with cleanup after you dip the marshmallows in the chocolate.
Next, dip each marshmallow in the melted dark chocolate. The straws will help act as a handle to make dipping easy. Dip some marshmallows all the way to the top, dip some only halfway, or dip some only 1/4 of the way. Have some fun with the process and get the kids involved! After dipping each marshmallow in the chocolate, cover the chocolate with some sprinkles. I found these adorable Valentine’s sprinkles at my local grocery store. Forego the sprinkles all together if you want to, or only place sprinkles on some of the chocolate dipped marshmallows. Do whatever suits your fancy. Not only are these treats tasty, but they are fun to make.
After you’ve prepared all of the chocolate dipped marshmallows, set them on the wax paper to cool and then place in the refrigerator for 60 minutes to allow the chocolate to harden. Place each chocolate dipped marshmallow in an individual treat bag and close with a twist-tie.
How cute are these? I took a big batch to work and they were a huge hit. You don’t have to be a kid to enjoy chocolate dipped marshmallows, but if you are a kid, you’re sure to enjoy them! Something about having individually wrapped treats makes kids feel extra special.
Make these at home and snap a photo and tag #ketchumkitchen on Social Media and come back and leave me a comment and let me know how they turned out and what type of topping you covered your chocolate dipped marshmallows in. The possibilities are endless!
